Marist Red Foxes Are Defeated at Siena 80-64

ALBANY – The Marist men’s basketball team suffered an 80-64 loss to Siena in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game in its regular-season finale at the Times Union Center on Sunday.

Marist will be the #10 seed in the MAAC Basketball Championship, and will face #7 Canisius in the opening round on Thursday, March 2 at the Times Union Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be carried on ESPN3.

Sophomore forward Ryan Funk led Marist with 18 points and six rebounds. Red-shirt senior Khallid Hart scored 17, and sophomore guard David Knudsen had 13.

Siena’s Marquis Wright led all scorers with 23.

Marist led by as much as 10 in the first half before the Saints battled back. The Saints outscored the Red Foxes 20-7 over the last five minutes of the first half, and led 45-40 going to the locker room.

The Red Foxes cut their deficit to three twice in the first six minutes of the second half, but drew no closer. Siena put the game out of reach thanks to an 11-0 run over a span of 2:15. The Saints expanded their lead to as much as 22, and the Red Foxes did not come closer than 13 over the final 10 minutes.

Marist shot 8-for-11 (.727) from three-point range in the first half and 14-for-24 (.583) from the field. In the second half, the Red Foxes shot just 3-for-16 (.188) from three, and 8-for-28 (.286) from the field.

Marist ends the regular season at 8-23 overall and 5-15 in the MAAC. Siena is 15-16 overall and 12-8 in the MAAC.
