Hawks Claim 7-2 Victory, and Drop a 2-0 Loss

(New Paltz)  The SUNY New Paltz baseball team hosted Scranton this afternoon and split with the Royals. The Hawks claimed the first game 7-2, before dropping a 2-0 decision in the nightcap.
In the first game the Hawks took to the board early on a Kevin Paino homerun. Scanton responed in the second with a bases loaded RBI walk. In the third Scranton tallied another run for the 2-1 lead before the Hawks evened the game on wild pitch to score John DeKams. New Paltz took control from here on out recording two runs in the fourth, a single in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Zachary Potter earned the win, allowing three hits, two walks and striking out four. Jesse Marsh, Paino, and Tyler Terlecky each went two for four from the plate.
In the second game, Scranton scored both runs in the fourth inning. With one out and runners on second and third Chris Psihoules hit a two RBI single. The Hawks made the game interesting in the bottom of the seventh with bases loaded and no outs. But the Royals prevailed striking out one batter and turning a double play on the next. Jim Donohue took the loss on the mound, allowing six hits, two runs, four walks and striking out four. Justin Buonamano recored the only hit for New Paltz.
The Hawks will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host CCNY at 3 p.m.
