Annual Summer Reading Program is Announced

NEWBURGH – The Newburgh Free Library is proud to announce its annual Summer Reading Program for children, teens, and adults! The national theme for Summer Reading this year is Libraries Rock!and there’s an exciting slate of events lined up for readers (and music lovers) of any age.

Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins on Mon., Jun. 18, with programs for all ages starting on Mon., Jul. 9. A Kick-off event will be held on Sat., Jun. 23 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at the Center Court of the Newburgh Mall, where children and their families can get more information on how to participate in the Summer Reading Program; visit with the Tail Waggin’ Tutor Therapy Dogs, and participate in a yoga activity for kids. There will also be information available for Adult Summer Reading registration at the Town Branch location.

The musical fun begins on Sun., Jun. 10 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., when the Newburgh Free Library presents a free concert fromsoft/pop rock duo Art Dawe and Scott Rosenblum. Old Friends (Art and Scott): An Acoustic Duo will perform acoustic covers of popular artists from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s including America, Simon & Garfunkel, and the Everly Brothers.The Library continues to rock out on Sat., Aug. 4 at 1 p.mwith Evan Gottfried’s Family Music Extravaganza, a high-energy interactive concert for families with children ages 2-10 featuring award winning original songs.

The Library’s third annual free mini comic-con NFLXpowill be held on Sat. Jun. 30from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.This event for child, teen and adult fans of comic books, manga, superhero and all things pop culture includes vendors, panel presentations, a cosplay contest and more!

Our popular Art Start program also returns this summer on Monday through Thursday, Jul. 9- Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where the Library will be offering art activities for children that include drawing, painting, comic strip design and graffiti. This program will be held in conjunction with the Newburgh Schools Summer Feeding Program, which provides children with a healthy free lunch during the week.The Art Start project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson. Other events this summer include book discussions, trivia, creative technology classes, and art and music programs for all ages.
