Strike Out Hunger Raises Funds For Food Pantry

MIDDLETOWN – The 2018 Strike Out Hunger Bowl-a-thon fundraiser generated over $1,400 for RECAP’s Nutrition & Advocacy program. Held Monday, August 20 at Quinnz Pinz in Middletown the event’s 6th anniversary bought out teams like #WomenRule and Quid Pro Bowl. First place team was business supplier E.A. Morse and coming in second was Jacobowitz & Gubits law firm. RECAP’s Head Start staff, as the Head Start Heroes, bowled with a superhero-theme and were voted Best Dressed team. Top Pledge honor was awarded to Affinity Health who sponsored 5 teams.

Local businesses including YMCA of Middletown, Fright Nights at Piersons’s Farm, and Great Lines Salon donated event tickets, gift certificates, baskets and products for the event’s tricky tray.

“There was so much interest in the event this year that we sold out of lanes,” said Francine Tavares, Human Services Coordinator at RECAP who organized the event. “Congrats to our winning teams and best dressed heroes, and thanks to our Affinity sponsor and staff at Quinnz Pinz who are always there for us.”

Event proceeds support the program’s food pantry. The program will soon kick off its annual Thanksgiving Drive. The most needed donations are turkeys, canned gravy, boxed stuffing, canned yams and sweet potatoes, instant potatoes, pie and cake mix, and canned fruit & vegetables. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated and contribute to bulk purchases from local food banks.
