Free Seminars and Classes For Ages 60+

NEW WINDSOR – Movement, exercise and socializing is essential to the aging community for so many health reasons. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention loss of strength and stamina attributed to aging is in-part caused by reduced physical activity. By age 75, about one in three men and one in two women engage in no physical activity.

However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the benefits of physical activity help maintain the ability to live independently and reduces risks of: falling, fracturing bones, heart disease, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression and much more.
In May, Union Avenue Community Fitness Center and Access Physical Therapy will be partnering to bring educational seminars to the fitness center. These seminars and classes are free and open to the public:

May 9 at 10:15am-Topic:Aging & Diabetes
May 10 at 10:15am-Topic: Improving Balance to Prevent Falls
May 12 at 9am-Enjoy a modified Zumba class for active older adults
May 15 at 10:15am- Topic: Conservative & Surgical Management of Arthritis

As an added bonus, Union Avenue Community Fitness Center, located at 565 Union Avenue in New Windsor, is offering free unlimited workouts including group exercise, land and water, for those 60+ from May 9-May 17.

Union Avenue Community Fitness Center offers ages 60+ a comfortable and friendly atmosphere and a 25-meter heated pool. The center charges ages 60+ only $9/month for the fitness room membership (call fitness center for details) plus they participate with SilverSneakers®– a free fitness program for adults 65+ which comes with qualifying health insurance plans.
