Black Knights Narrowly Fall to Colgate, 4-3

BOSTON – The Army West Point softball team fell 4-3 to Colgate in the elimination round of the Patriot League tournament Friday afternoon at the BU Softball Complex.

The Black Knights were the first team on the board. Angelina Bebek had an RBI single up the middle, which scored Alicyn Grete, in the bottom of the second and gave Army the 1-0 lead.

Grete, Army’s starting pitcher, retired the first 10 batters she faced. Though, the Raiders were able to take the lead with a three-run top of the fourth to push ahead 3-1.

The Black Knights got a run back in the bottom of the fifth with Bebek sending a solo shot over the left field fence. The home run was her fourth of the season.

Army tied it up at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth with Grete hitting and inside the park home run.

Colgate’s Steph Jacoby hit a go-ahead homer in the top of the seventh.

Grete allowed just three hits and struck out five batters in 7.0 innings of work.

This marked the final career game for seniors Annie Brock, Taylor Drayton, Taylor Livingston and Ally Snelling. The group won 82 games and advanced to the Patriot League tournament two out of the three years it was played.
