NP Hawks Fall to Buffalo State, in Season Finale

BUFFALO – The State University of New York at New Paltz women’s soccer team closed out its 2016 season with a 2-0 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) road loss against No. 22 Buffalo State on Friday afternoon.

The Bengals outshot the Hawks by a 15-1 margin, with 11 shots-on-goal, and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior midfielder Gabriela Cabello recorded the lone shot for New Paltz while junior goalie Katelyn Cordero made nine saves in the net.

Senior forward Melissa Smith and junior forward Tianna Hatch each scored a goal for the Bengals to seal the 2-0 win. Smith fired off four shots for the day while Hatch recorded two shots. Senior forward Catherine Mammoser added three shots to the Bengals’ offense. Freshman goalie Taylor Carillo earned the win in goal and collected her 10th shutout of the season.

The Hawks concluded their 2016 campaign 1-15-2 overall, 0-9-0 SUNYAC. The Bengals (14-1-2, 9-0-0 SUNYAC) earned the No. 1 seed in the 2016 SUNYAC Tournament, receiving a bye to the semifinals, and will face the winner of the first round SUNY Plattsburgh/SUNY Oswego game.
