NP Hawks Men’s XC Take First at Invitational

GENEVA – The State University of New York at New Paltz men’s cross country team took top honors at the Hobart and William Smith Invitational on Saturday afternoon, which served as the final tune-up for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships.

New Paltz earned a total of 23 points to top the field. Clarkson University earned the runner-up spot with 43 points while host Hobart claimed third with 102 points.
“The guys finally showed what they can do as a team today,” said head coach Mike Trunkes. “When everyone is healthy and ready to go on the same day, they can put together a great performance.”

Senior Galo Vasquez led the charge for the Hawks, completing the eight-kilometer course in 25:34.8 to finish first out of 145 runners. Sophomore Jack Wilson and junior Stephen Smith earned third and fourth-place finishes with times of 25:52.7 and 25:54.5, respectively. Senior Josh Korn[sixth, 26:17.7] and junior Barrett Celecki[ninth, 26:47.6] also finished within the top-10.

Sophomore Thomas Rizzo earned 17th-place with a time of 27:16.2, followed by seniors Ian Detweiler [27:37.8] and Joe Richards[27:50.8] who finished 19th and 21st, respectively.
Sophomore Alex Court [36th, 28:42.6], freshman Carlos Ramos [57th, 29:41.7], senior Nick Aprigliano [59th, 29:45.6] and sophomore Aidan Klein [71st, 30:13.6] rounded out the New Paltz field.
