Beacon resident, Tara Simmons, will be making a 100 mile running trek next month to spread awareness of the 30 Human Rights all people are entitled to and deserve to have protected. Her journey will start in Albany on October 3 and conclude the next day, back home in Beacon. Guided by her organization’s Flipit4Life philosophy, focused upon turning any negative into a positive, Simmons is intent on spreading love and respect, serving as a shining light to her community and beyond.

Throughout the month of August, on Thursday evenings from 6-8, The Beacon Drum Circle, will be playing at Beacon’s Long Dock Waterfront area. A “free flow” group whose participants change weekly, it includes a spectrum of unique percussion instruments played by people from all backgrounds amidst a beautiful Hudson River, sunset background.

Rayne Rhodes, age three from the City of Beacon, came to the Prince Hall Hebron Lodge Annual Holiday Party Saturday with her mom, Cecilia Smutney, where she selected the gift of her choice, a diaper set for her baby doll. Her mom also brought home presents for her other daughter who got a nail set as well as a soccer ball for her son.

The Howland Cultural Center is proud and pleased to present seventeen Latino American artists of the Hudson Valley in Inclusion, an exhibition to run from December 7 through December 29.

Howland Displays Latino American Art Exhibit

Around 20 artists were on hand at Saturday's Opening for the current show, African-American History Month's Group exhibit, at the Howland Cultural Center. The well-attended Opening also included local musicians as well as a local poet entertaining the crowd who had the opportunity to interact with the artists while viewing their unique creations. Their colorful, multi media and powerful works of all these artists can be viewed throughout the month
