Army Falls to BU in Spring Debut

Boston, Mass. – The Army women’s tennis team opened its spring campaign on a losing note as Boston University swept all three doubles matches along with winning the six singles in straight sets en route to a 7-0 decision Saturday afternoon at the Track and Tennis Center in the spring debut for both teams.

Though BU swept all three doubles to pick up the first point of the match, the Terriers were hard-pressed to nail down wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Army’s tandem of Brooke Jones and Sarah Giles-Madden challenged Erin Katims and Liz Corrao before falling 8-6, while at No. 2, Niki Flach and Jessica Shurtz pushed BU’s duo of Katie Draganova and Danielle Abraham before bowing in a 9-7 tie-breaker.

Giles Madden was just as unrelenting in singles action where she pushed Yana Sanovskaya in the second set at No. 2 before bowing 6-4. Also challenging her opponent was freshman Paige Ford, who extended Katie Draganova being going down to a hard-fought 7-5 defeat in the first set at No. 6 singles.

The Black Knights, two-time defending Patriot League champions, will look to bounce back Sunday when they visit Boston College.
