Councilwoman Thompson recognized for her artwork

Dear Editor:

February is officially designated nationally as African-American History Month. Beacon is a very rich and diverse city with many talented African-Americans serving in various capacities. One such person I would like to personally congratulate at this time is Beacon (At Large) City Councilwoman Eleanor Thompson. She has been designated as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado this summer from August 25 through August 28, 2008. Councilwoman Thompson’s artwork is on display at the Howland Cultural Center in Beacon. She is such a talented person, I am sure the teens at the Martin Luther King Cultural Center, will miss her as Project Director over the teen programs. Councilwoman Thompson is an outstanding citizen and leader who reaches out to everyone. She carries so many credentials, it is impossible for me to list them all. I can say that she is a mother, grandmother, cancer survivor, retired school teacher, and a licensed certified real estate representative. I am also sure she will represent New York State quite honorably at the Democratic National Convention in Colorado and Beacon will become known nationally.
