Army Lt. Col. Gregory A. Johnson

Army Lt. Col. Gregory A. Johnson has retired from the U.S. Army after more than 21 years of distinguished service.

Johnson, son of Calvin and Lillie Cooper Sr., from Eileen Blvd., Poughkeepsie, has been the deputy chief of operations staff and directorate for analysis with the Defense Intelligence Agency, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C.

Johnson was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1986 following graduation from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, and completion of the university’s ROTC program. He later went on to earn a master’s degree from the Naval War College, Newport, R.I., in 2003, as well as another master’s degree from Central Michigan University.

He began his active duty career with the 24th Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga., as an infantry officer. His assignments have taken him around the world, including a stint to Iraq and the Middle East and Southwest Asia.

Johnson is a graduate of the Army Ranger School at Fort Benning, Ga., the jumpmaster school, as well as both the Army and Naval Command and General Staff Colleges.

He and his wife, Wanza, along with their four daughters, Jori, Taylor, Taren and Brielle, reside in Waldorf, Md.
