Jones’ 25th Pastoral Anniversary

New Windsor – Superintendent Eugene Jones Sr., D.D. recently celebrated his 25th pastoral anniversary at Anthony’s Pier 9.

A man of God-given vision, and a zeal for spiritual renewal, restoration of the family, and unity in the Body of Christ, underscores his twenty five years of pastoral ministry. Believing that \”everyone is someone,\” Superintendent Jones ministers to the spiritual, emotional and social needs of the congregation through practical teaching and application of the Word of God.

Since 1983, Superintendent Jones has serves as the Pastor and Administrator of the Hollingsworth Memorial Church – Family Worship Center in Nyack, New York. Under his leadership, the church as experienced rapid growth and zealous participation of its membership. Superintendent Jones has a burning desire for the advancement of God’s kingdom; and nothing excites him more than seeing peoples lives changed, as they desire to grow to be complete in Christ with a passion for holiness and true discipleship.

Superintendent Jones was born on October 5, 1941 in Delray Beach, Florida to William (late) and Elizabeth Jones. At the age of 10, he along with his parents and sister moved to Newburgh, New York where he completed secondary education in the Newburgh Public School System. He later earned a degree in Energy Technology from the Bergen Community College.

Superintendent Jones began attending Best Temple Church of God in Christ in Newburgh, New York at the age of 11 under the Pastorate of the Late Dr. James L. Best, Sr. It was through this ministry that he later came to know the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior and received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This was also where he met and was swept off his feet by the beautiful former Myrtle L. Hill; and in November 1961, they became husband and wife.

In 1968 Superintendent Jones answered the call of God into a ministry and was licensed to preach by his former Pastor, the Late Superintendent James L. Best. In 1971 he was ordained an Elder in the Churches of God in Christ.

With a hunger and thirst to know more of God, Superintendent Jones studied at the Newburgh Bible Institute (also know as Manhattan Bible Institute, a satellite of American Divinity College), where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Theology and also served there for several years as an instructor. Furthering his studies, he earned a Masters of Divinity Degree from the Christ Theological Seminary in New Rochelle, New York; and was later endowed with an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree from the Eastern Theological Center in Richmond, Virginia.

Superintendent Jones came to Hollingsworth Temple in 1981 after the demise of Pastor Hollingsworth, and served for two years as Assistant Pastor under the church’s interim Overseer, Dr. Best; and on August 23, 1983, he was installed as Pastor of the Hollingsworth Temple Church of God in Christ by the late Bishop F.D. Washington.

In 1988, Pastor Jones was also appointed Superintendent over the Upper Hudson District, overseeing several churches from Hudson to Nyack, New York. In 1990 under Pastor Jones’ leadership, Hollingsworth broke ground for the building of a new edifice in its present location; and was completed in March 1995.

Superintendent Jones and his wife, Myrtle, are the proud parents of seven children, 15 grandchildren, two daughters-in-law, and three sons-in-law.
