NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh Youth Bureau hosted their third Newburgh Youth LAN event on Friday, August 1st. The gaming competition is designed for youth between the ages of 12 and 18 to compete for prizes and giveaways.
Samuel Wilson, came up with the idea of hosting a gaming competition several years ago. “The first one was hard, but things are a lot easier this time around,” Wilson noted. He’s already thinking about the next competition which could possibly happen later this year.
The event started at noon and finished around four o’clock in the afternoon. For hours the kids played Madden 08, Halo, and NBA Live 08. With pizza, drinks and other goodies donated by local stores, the kids kept their energy levels up for the four-hour-competition. “I love to play video games,” said four-year-old Tylon. While he didn’t win a prize, he had lots of fun.
Tylon was among 75 other local kids that came to the gaming competition. “It’s a real good turnout,” noted Joy Pittman, City of Newburgh Youth Bureau Youth Services Coordinator.
That’s kind of the idea that Wilson had in mind. Have a place where kids can hang out and play video games with their friends.
