Richard Pryor Concert Cancelled

Newburgh – The Ferry Godmother, Aquanetta Wright, producer of the highly successful Newburgh Jazz Series has announced the cancellation of  the Richard Pryor Jr. concert scheduled for Wednesday Aug. 27  6:30 – 8:30 pm at the Newburgh Waterfront.

\”Due to an unexpected change in a filming production schedule, Mr. Pryor will be unable to return to the East Coast for his performance.  Although a great disappointment I feel very happy and privileged to have worked with Mr. Pryor in the past,\” states Aquanetta.

\”It is his generous spirit and kindness which brought him to Newburgh to help me create a phenomenal program last year and I look forward to working with in the upcoming future,\” Wright stated.  Mr. Pryor was a special featured guest at the flagship event, Newburgh Jazz Series 2007.  He performed with the talented Bill Gulino Quartet.  Because all 18 concerts are free, there are no tickets or refunds.   For the series grand finale week, Ferry Godmother Productions has invited the Hudson Valley\’s hottest latin-jazz band, Mambo Ki-Kongo.  For added pleasure to end the incredible series Mambo Ki-Kongo will be performing swingin\’ American standards and the sounds of Afro-Latin rhythms that you can dance to like  rumba, mambo and cha-cha.

Mambo Kikongo, founded by percussionist Carlos Valdez, has become known in the region for vibrant Afro-Cuban jazz melded with the rhythms of New Orleans and Brazil.  But Mambo Kikongo will not stand still.  With the addition of singer Reggie Earls, the band has expanded to incorporate bluesier, funkier dance tunes, without loosing their Latin roots.  Micheal Colletti on bass, and Manuel Quintana on drums complete the driving rhythm section.  John Esposito is featured on keyboard Pete Buettner on sax.  There is no better Latin flavored dance band around.

The phenomenal Saints of Swing, performing a New Orleans style concert, will close the series on land Thursday, then lead the precession to the boat where Newburgh’s native DJ, Majestic Music will spin a magical end to another successful Ferry Godmother production. Included on board will be food, desserts and a cash bar.

There’s no better place to be than with the Ferry Godmother as she restores the magic. Tickets are limited and can be purchased at any of the concerts or online for details call (845) 926-8868 or email: tix@ferrygodmother.com

The Newburgh Jazz Series 2008 has been a summer long free outdoor series.  It is held on the Newburgh waterfront landing each Wednesday and Thursday, 6:30 to 8:30 pm  throughout July and August.
