The National Urban League and the Urban League Movement deeply mourn the passing of U.S. Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Rep. Tubbs Jones’ family, friends and constituents at this difficult time,” says National Urban League President and CEO, Marc H. Morial. “Rep. Tubbs Jones was not only an outstanding, effective and committed Member of Congress, but was a remarkable woman much loved and respected by all who knew her.”
The 58-year-old Congresswoman was the first African-American woman to represent Ohio when she was elected in 1998, serving five terms. A member of the House’s Ways and Means Committee and a chair for the House Ethics Committee, Rep. Tubbs Jones was also an influential figure who played an important historical and political role in the African-American community. Her presence will be greatly missed.
