Army Sgt. 1st Class Douglas P. Dickson has been selected for induction into the Sgt. Audie L. Murphy Club. The club was formed in honor of the Army’s World War II most decorated combat soldier, Audie Leon Murphy.
Soldiers who demonstrate dynamic inherent leadership skills, abilities, military knowledge, and courage in performance of their assigned duties and responsibilities, as characterized by Sergeant Murphy, are recognized and selected for induction into the elite organization.
Inductees must be sponsored by their first sergeant and recommended by their unit commander. The candidates are reviewed and evaluated by a high ranking selection board who question, test, and score soldiers on their level of knowledge in a range of subjects that warrant induction. Of the few inductees who are recommended, a very low percentage are selected as qualified members.
Dickson, a cavalry instructor with nine years of service, is regularly assigned at Fort Knox, Ky.
He is the son of David P. and Georgina Dickson of Meadowbrook Drive, Kingston, N.Y.
The sergeant first class graduated in 1994 from Saugerties High School, N.Y.
