Obama Responds to Local Students Letter

NEWBURGH – Students in Mala Hoffman’s fifth grade accelerated class at Horizons on the Hudson Magnet School recently presented a letter and picture they received from President Obama to Principal Lisa Buon.

Earlier in the year, the students wrote letters about environmental concerns to President Obama and other government officials as part of their International Baccalaureate studies. Prior to writing the letters, the students researched a specific environmental issue and devised possible solutions which they included in their correspondence.

In addition to the response from President Obama, students also heard from Governor Cuomo, Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx and United States Department of Agriculture Acting Deputy Administrator Michael Firko.
