Welcome to Mrs. Lo’s first Community Corner Column! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Juliana LoBiondo, but most people call me \”Mrs. Lo.\” I am probably best known as Team Mom for the Newburgh Rowing Club. I am a wife, mom, football mom, crew mom, Blogger and Director of the not-for-profit America Rows and Swims Newburgh. And I’ve been a lawyer for the past 24 years. ● The Newburgh Salvation Army held its annual Red Kettle Bell Kickoff at the Newburgh Mall on November 17th, attended by Major Steve Stoops from Divisional Headquarters, City of Newburgh Mayor Judith Kennedy, and serenaded by the amazing Salvation Army Corps Band. Proceeds from the Red Kettle Bell campaign stay right here in Newburgh and go toward the Salvation Army’s free Thanksgiving Dinner, the Holiday Toy Drive, and the free hot lunch and hot dinner served daily. ● The Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh received the Northeast Award in the area of Average Daily Attendance (\”ADA\”). This award is given to programs which have excelled in club attendance. Said the Boys and Girls Club’s Coach Eric Motley, \”we know firsthand that expanding our average daily attendance is the gateway to successful outcomes. We are so proud out Newburgh Club received this recognition.\”

● Nora Cronin Presentation Academy held a successful Third Annual Holiday Mixer at the Newburgh Brewing Co. on November 19th, said Sister Yliana Hernandez, Principal. Chef Kathy Woods provided a healthy foods demonstration, there was a Silent Auction, basket raffle, and a Mini Cupcake Contest. Nora Cronin Presentation Academy provides a gateway out of poverty through education for middle school girls in the City of Newburgh. www.noracroninpresentationacademy.org

● COMING UP: starting December 5th, Just Off Broadway presents \”A Christmas Carol\” at the Theatre at West Shore Station, call 845-565-3791; Safe Homes of Orange County will hold its 10th Annual Gingerbread Project on December 13th, call (845) 496-3691; and America Rows and Swims Newburgh will hold it’s Winter Wonderland Fundraiser at Ice Time from 1-3 pm, tickets are $5 pp in advance and include group skate, skate rental, and a raffle ticket for a mini iPad; Beats headphones or a Pandora gift card, email Mrs. Lo at newburghrowers@gmail.com for more information.

● La Escuela del Sagrado Corazón en Newburgh, Nueva York se convirtió en la primera escuela en el condado de Orange para instituir un programa \”Madrinas\”, un programa oficial de la Arquidiócesis de Nueva York, dirigido a aumentar la matrícula de estudiantes de familias hispanas en Escuelas Católicas, dijo Catrina Rocco, directora de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón.

\”Nuestras primeras Madrinas son Juliana LoBiondo, una abogada local, y Directora de America Rows and Swims Newburgh, una organización sin fines de lucro. También se unió al programa Lisa Valera, una madre de estudiantes en Sagrado Corazón, que trabaja para el U.S. Air Force. Ambas Madrinas son activas en la comunidad hispana y son bilingües \”.
