Army 1st Lt. Aaron B. Horwood

Army 1st Lt. Aaron B. Horwood, a Distribution Platoon Leader with the 82nd Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan., will be deploying with the “Dagger” Brigade for nine months to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The unit’s mission is to support trusted regional partners with bilateral and multilateral military exercises and theater security cooperation activities in the Central Command area of responsibility.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners.  Active duty and reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been deployed to support the war against global terrorism outside the borders of the United States. U.S. troops serve in South, Southwest and Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn of Africa, islands in the Pacific, and Europe.

Horwood is the son of Kathleen R. and Bruce T. Horwood of Glendale, Ark., and the husband of Kelly M. Horwood of Hendersonville, N.C.

He is a 2009 graduate of Northwest Christian School, Phoenix, Ariz. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2013 from United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
