New Paltz Hawks Drop 5-4 Decision to Union

SCHENECTADY – The State University of New York at New Paltz women’s tennis team dropped a close 5-4 match to Union (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon.

 The Hawks drop to 7-5 overall and move on to host Ithaca College on Friday, April 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the North Tennis Fields. Union improves to 7-5 and next plays the Rochester Institute of Technology tomorrow at 12 p.m.

 Junior Olivia Ammirati and senior Laura Tierney fought a close second flight doubles match but ended up falling, 9-8, to their opponents. The Dutchwomen won the other two flights for a doubles action sweep.

 The Hawks won four out of six flights in singles play but Union would seal the win as Ammirati fell to her opponent, 7-6, (7-2), 6-3, in flight one.

 Sophomore Brittany Grandville defeated her opponent, 6-0, 6-4, to win flight two while sophomore Carol Tyson won flight three, 6-1, 6-4. Tierney took the victory in flight four, 6-1, 6-4, while sophomore Emi Lewis won flight five, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Junior Kirsten Delvecchio rounded out the line up in flight six, falling to her opponent, 6-1, 6-0.
