Track & Field has Three First Place Finishes

LEWISBURG, PA. – The Army West Point women’s track and field team wrapped up the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships with three first-place finishes coming from freshman Abby Halbrook, sophomore Briyah Brown, and senior Cody Rothschild. The Black Knights finished in fifth place with 84 points. Bucknell, the host school, won on the women’s side with 201.5 points.

“We had great competitive effort today from the women that we brought to the meet,” said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. “We had quite a few champions and some gutsy performances.”

Halbrook claimed top honors in the 5,000 Meter Run. She completed in under 17 minutes for the first time in her career, finishing in 16:59.16. Brown’s throw of 15.03 meters in the Shot Put was over 1.1 meters better than anybody else in the field. Rothschild competed in the Discus Throw and led the field with a 45.09 meter-best throw.

Freshman Cassie Mundekis had a solid outing in the 800 Meter Run. Her time of 2:11.63 was good enough for fifth place and within .53 seconds of her best mark.

The 4×100 meter relay team of junior Whidney Desormo, senior Haley Winters, junior Cori Lemere, and sophomore Sydney Hawkins placed second (47.35). Winters also stood second in the 100 Meter Dash as she finished in 12.03 seconds and third in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 25.06 seconds.
