PORT EWEN – On Tuesday, June 14, Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Center honored 430 students during its Career & Technical Center Achievement Ceremony at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston.

The students, who are from high schools throughout the region, were honored for completing the requirements of their trade program. The 2016 valedictorian was Highland High School student Gino Plantania, who attended the CISCO program. The salutatorian, Delaney Malak, is from Rondout Valley High School, and was enrolled in the Cosmetology program. This year’s principal’s award recipient is Highland High School student Paul Rhodes, who was enrolled in the Automotive Technology program.

Plantania, who is going to keep building on his networking and computer repair foundation through online correspondence courses, says he feels honored for being named valedictorian. “I take pride in it because it represents the work I’ve put into excelling in my education.”

Malak says the relationships she formed while at Ulster BOCES are invaluable. “It’s harder when you’re in high school to meet people. Everyone at BOCES was so friendly,” says Malak who is planning on taking her New York State Cosmetology Practical Exam over the summer.
