NEWBURGH – Students in the STEAM Summer Enrichment Program held at the Newburgh Free Academy Main Campus participated in a special program this summer. Over the course of the program, the students were part of a production company researching, documenting and enlightening the community about the challenges we face and bringing them to life on stage.
The program was open to students entering grades 6 through 12. Students were able to explore the different skills and career paths associated with a production company. Science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics skills were enhanced through the creation and performance of a student generated original production about composting.
Professionals within4Students utilized science, technology engineering and mathematics to develop set and lighting design, English Language Arts skills for script writing and editing, and how to create a budget for the production and allocate resources appropriately.
Fostertown School will be home to a composting garden beginning in September 2016. Under the direction of Science Teacher John Garzione, students will continue the work started in the summer program and create a compost garden to be utilized during the school year.
