City Plays Major Sponsor Role in Jazz Series

NEWBURGH – The Ferry Godmother announces the City of Newburgh is a major sponsor of the returning Newburgh Jazz Series and other concerts produced this summer.  The city is making good on a promise to work to bring the Newburgh Jazz Series back to the Newburgh waterfront since announcing its‘ departure in August 2011. Performing on the main stage will be Tyrone Birkett Emancipation.

Opening will be the Walker Valley Marching Band and Chiku Awali African Dancing and Drumming.  The Newburgh Jazz Series will go down in history as a premiere destination site, playing a major role in Newburgh’s cultural and revitalization history since 2006.  Ferry Godmother Production Executive Producer Aquanetta  “Ferry Godmother” Wright states, “I will continue to work diligently to support activities for residents, my commitment to economic development and tourism.”

Once the multi-million dollar cleanup at the old Consolidate Iron Site on the Newburgh waterfront, renamed the People’s Park was finalized, the city began planning how the space is to be used.  For years when the concerts left the city’s waterfront residents continued to be disappointed. The free world class concerts included Grammy winners, nominees and known locals. Ferry Godmother Productions made history by bring the US Military Jazz Knights from West Point to the city. In fall of 2015 the Ferry Godmother Productions executive producer, Aquanetta “Ferry Godmother” Wright met to discuss bringing the concerts back to the city where it all began.  “I am committed to this community and I believe our concerts, projects and upcoming social media platform will further showcase our great people, culture and artists,” Ferry Godmother” stated.

Now in its’ tenth year, Ferry Godmother Productions develops quality live performances at some of the wonderful venues’ in the Hudson Valley.  The summer long event is dedicated to, education and preservation. This year’s Ferry Godmother music events marks the tenth year for music in the City of Newburgh, and the first year was the Newburgh Jazz-A-thon on the ferry landing, thus making it the longest running and the first of its kind in Orange County.

Set in a beautiful and intimate environment ideal for hosting the Newburgh Jazz-Go-Round, this week’s concert series continues at Mount Saint Mary College, Desmond Campus. Performing will be the Christopher Dean Sullivan Ensemble with special guest Gabriele Tranchina. The concert is free and show time is 6:30 pm, bring a chair or blanket.
