Hispanic Heritage Festival Has a Healthy Twist

POUGHKEEPSIE – Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley  and The Poughkeepsie Healthy Black and Latino Coalition celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month at the Hispanic Heritage Festival with health screenings, free and confidential HIV testing, free flu shots, free mobile clinic, information on healthy living along with music, art, free food, giveaways, and more!
The event was held on Saturday, September 17 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm at Earline Patrice Park (Mansion Square Park) on Mansion Street in the City of Poughkeepsie.

Community members joined with the coalition partners on Saturday to celebrate the work in the community addressing health disparities, breaking barriers, and improving access to healthcare. The informative event provided health information and education, a multitude of children activities, free food, live cultural performances, music and a space to celebrate community health.

“It’s important to have events like this to continue the dialogue on addressing health disparities and access to healthcare.  It is our hope that the community will build a healthy future together and join us today,” said Annette Marzan, Community Outreach Manager at Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley and Co-Chair of the Poughkeepsie Healthy Black and Latino Coalition.

Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley is the proud sponsor of the Poughkeepsie Healthy Black and Latino Coalition that was formed to address health disparities within the Black and Latino communities which are underserved, unaware of resources and underutilizing healthcare services, putting them at greater risk.

The Poughkeepsie Health Black and Latino Coalition is comprised of over 30 representatives from civic and community based organizations. The coalition meets monthly to identify goals and implement strategies for positive change.
