Knights Swim Past Old Westbury, Mount Saint Vincent

OLD WESTBURY – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Swimming team opened the season on Friday with a pair of Skyline Conference victories, topping Old Westbury 141-50 and Mount Saint Vincent 139-34. The Knights won all 11 events in the meet, with Jessica Daigle and Kyra McNamee each winning twice.

Daigle opened the season in strong fashion on Friday, posting victories for the Knights in the 1,000-yard and 100-yard freestyle races. She won the distance event on Friday in a time of 11:48.98 and took the 100-yard race in 1:00.68.

McNamee, the 2015-16 Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year, posted wins for Mount Saint Mary in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Her freestyle win came in a time of 2:08.02, while her backstroke triumph came in 1:09.58.

Sophomore Lauren Schroeder closed a strong night with a winning time of 27.50 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and also added a second place finish in a time of 1:01.10 in the 100-yard event. Stephanie Adams also scored a win and a runner-up finish for the Knights, winning the 500-yard freestyle in 6:26.15 and taking second in the 1,000-yard race.

The Knights also received victories on Friday from Danielle Hughes in the 200-yard individual medley, Samantha McGregor in the 100-yard butterfly and newcomer Taylor Hollis in the 100-yard breaststroke. McGregor also placed second for the Knights in the 500-yard freestyle.

Mount Saint Mary added victories in both of Friday’s relay events, with the team of McNamee, Marissa Catania, McGregor and Schroeder winning the 200-yard medley event in a time of 2:03.25, while the squad of Hughes, Adams, Catania and Daigle closed the meet with a winning time of 1:56.01 in the 200-yard freestyle race.

At 2-0 overall and 2-0 against league rivals, Mount Saint Mary will be back in action again on October 22 at home against Ramapo. Meet time is set for 1:00 p.m.
