Mount Saint Mary Eases Past Old Westbury, 7-1

NEWBURGH – Junior Bridget McKeever recorded a hat trick and Maeve O’Sullivan added a pair of goals as the Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Soccer team cruised to their third straight win with a convincing 7-1 home victory over Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon.

Following a sluggish start, the Knights erupted for three goals in a 14 minute stretch in the middle stages of the first half. McKeever scored her first two goals of the game 38 seconds apart to give the Mount a two goal lead and Destiny Ribadeneyra potted her third goal of the season in the 29th minute. McKeever’s second game winning goal of the season came off a passing play from Allison Jones and O’Sullivan in the 16th minute.

The Knights added two more goals in the final 13 minutes of the opening period, with McKeever finishing off the hat trick off an Old Westbury turnover in the 33rd minute and Jackie Davis collecting her fifth goal of the season in the 36th minute. Old Westbury’s lone goal of the game came at the 38:24 mark when Edania Martinez converted a penalty kick.

Mount Saint Mary finished the first half with a 12-3 edge in shots and took both corner kicks awarded in the opening 45 minutes.

The Mount put two more goals on the board in the second half, with O’Sullivan scoring her fifth and sixth goals of the season. She collected a turnover two minutes into the second period and scored her first of the game and then took a through ball from Claire Newman in the 65th minute and converted her second goal of the game to close out the scoring on the day.

McKeever’s scoring output moved her team lead in goals to nine and points to 23. Jones picked up two assists in the game and O’Sullivan moved into second place on the team in goals and added an assist to close out a three point game. In all, six Mount Saint Mary players finished the game with at least one point.

Junior Mary Riley earned the win in goal after making a single save in just over 61 minutes of work on Saturday. Molly Jensen also finished with save for the Knights in the game.

Overall, Mount Saint Mary finished the game with a commanding 23-5 edge in shots, including a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights also held the advantage in corner kicks on Saturday, 3-1.

Saturday’s win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 7-8 overall on the season and to 6-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will close out the regular season on Tuesday when they play host to league foe Purchase. Kick-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
