Meals on Wheels Holds 6th Annual Appreciation Party

NEWBURGH – Sandwiches – over 100 of them – were on the menu at Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh last week as they honored their volunteers at their 6th annual Volunteer Appreciation Sandwich Party.  On the menu were sandwiches from Subway at 76 North Plank Road in Newburgh, chips courtesy of Utz Fine Foods in Walden, and delicious Honeycrisp apples donated by Hudson River Fruit Distributors in Milton.

“Volunteers are truly our ‘wheels,’ said Executive Director Robin Bello.  “They go out in all kinds of weather to deliver hot, noontime, meals to the homebound in our community who are in need.  President Carole McDermott added, “For many of our meal recipients, the volunteer who delivers their meal is the only person they will see that day.  It’s about those moments of human connection that uplift the spirit and make volunteering so rewarding for everyone.”

Meals on Wheels has been delivering meals in Newburgh and New Windsor since 1972.  To volunteer or to receive meals, phone Meals on Wheels at 845-562-3490 on weekday mornings and ask for Robin.  Donations, which are tax-deductible, are always appreciated and may be mailed to Meals on Wheels, P.O.
