Women’s Swimming and Diving Defeat Skidmore

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar College women’s swimming and diving team teamed up to topple their first Liberty League opponent, the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds, with a final score of 159-125.

The 200 medley relays captured 13 points off of the start with a first (1:57.57) and third (2:06.76) finish.  Outpacing Thoroughbred Elizabeth Levy, Sammy Stone captured the 1000 free with an 11:04.90 final time. Stone returned to the pool in the 100 free, where she scored big points for Vassar with her 55.38 first place finish, accompanied by teammates Meg Harrington (58.17) and Julia Wieczorek (1:02.74).

Julia Cunningham (2:07.11) and Zoe Kurtz (2:55.79) teamed up for first and fourth places in the 200 fly.  Only in her second meet of the season, Cunningham’s time stepped under the NCAA “B” qualification standard by .15 seconds.  Kurtz (1:18.46) flew back into the pool in the 100 fly, teaming up with Laura Vidano (1:05.45) to earn fourth and first places, respectively.

Elisielle Wilson took 3rd in 1-meter diving with 124.05, her personal best score this season.
The Brewers finished strong, ending the meet with five consecutive event first places, as Cunningham won the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.59 and Kael Ragnini also won the 500 yard free with a 5:25.78. Cunningham also earned a win at the 2:29.12 in the 200 breast.

Vassar was also strong in the final event of the day, ending the afternoon with a decisive 400 free relay win headed by Harrington, Stone, Cali Corbett, and RagnThe Brewers will return to Kresge Pool on November 12 at 1 p.m., where they will face another Liberty League opponent, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
