Brewers Rosenthal Notches A Double-Double

POUGHKEEPSIE – Ariella Rosenthal notched her first double-double of the season, as the Vassar College women’s basketball team fell late to William Paterson at the Athletics and Fitness Center on Monday, 64-62.

Rosenthal registered team-highs in points (20) and rebounds (14), while Sophie Nick tallied 11 points, and Isa Peczuh added 10.

The Brewers shot 34 percent from the floor and 15 percent (3-of-20) from three, while their visitors shot 38 and 25 percent (3-of-12), respectively.

As for William Paterson, Gabby Harris was the only Pioneer to notch double figures with 15 off the bench.

The Brewers jumped out to a 6-0 advantage before pushing their lead to as many as 11, 17-6, in the first quarter. After one, Rosenthal paced the pack with eight points and eight boards.

Just as the Brewers had started the opening quarter with energy, they notched six of the first eight points to start the second.

Vassar extended its lead to 15 before William Paterson used a 13-4 run to get within six, 31-25, to end the half. Rosenthal and Nick broke up the burst with a jumper and layup, respectively.

Once again, the Brewers came out hot, scoring six of the first eight to start the new half. But the Pioneers responded with a 13-4 run to pull within one, 41-40. Thanks to some beautiful ball movement by the Brewers, the spurt was broken up with buckets from Nick and Teta.
The sides exchanged buckets the rest of the quarter, as the Brewers carried a 44-43 lead into the final frame.

The Brewers maintained their theme of fast starts, opening the fourth with a 9-3 spurt, which Nick capped with an and-one following a layup from Maeve Sussman to make it a seven-point ballgame, 53-46.

The Pioneers ripped of a 16-6 run to take its first advantage of the contest, a 62-59 edge with 29 seconds remaining. Peczuh responded with a triple from the corner to knot the game at 62-all with 23 seconds remaining, but Harris rolled in a layup on the other end to seal the win with three seconds to go.

Vassar continues its three-game homestand, hosting Drew University on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. and Ithaca College on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.
