Marist Red Foxes Defeat Dartmouth, 75-69

HANOVER, NH – The Marist men’s basketball team earned a 75-69 triumph at Dartmouth on Saturday.

Red-shirt senior guard Khallid Hart tied his season high with 27 points, 22 of which came in the second half. Hart shot 9-for-14 from the field and 4-for-7 from three-point range.

Sophomore guard Brian Parker had his fourth career double-double, and the team’s first of the season, with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore swingman Kristinn Palsson scored 10 points off the bench to give the Red Foxes three double-digit scorers. Sophomore forward Ryan Funk notched career highs with seven rebounds and three steals.

Dartmouth scored the game’s first five points before the Red Foxes grabbed the lead on back-to-back three-pointers by sophomore forward Isaiah Lamb and Funk. At the 15:55 mark, the Big Green re-claimed the lead on a three-pointer by Evan Boudreaux, and remained ahead for the next four-and-a-half minutes until a basket by Parker gave Marist an 11-10 advantage. The Red Foxes’ largest first-half lead was 12, as Marist held Dartmouth scoreless for 10:05. However, the Big Green outscored the Red Foxes 17-6 over the final 5:10 of the first half, and Marist led 28-27 at halftime.

A back-and-forth second half included 14 lead changes and four ties. Hart scored 12 consecutive points for the Red Foxes between the 8:09 and 3:24 marks, and totaled 17 points in a span of 7:48 in the second half.

With 2:59 to play, a three-pointer by Dartmouth’s Miles Wright gave the Big Green a 67-65 lead. On the ensuing possession, Palsson drilled a three-pointer from the corner with 2:36 remaining, and the Red Foxes led the rest of the way. Marist held Dartmouth scoreless on its next four possessions, and Hart’s three-pointer with 18 seconds to go expanded Marist’s lead to six. The Red Foxes went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final 1:05, with Funk and Parker each hitting a pair in this span.

Marist shot .529 (27-for-51) from the field, including .593 (16-for-27) in the second half. The Red Foxes were 3-for-10 from three-point range and 3-for-9 from the free-throw line in the first 20 minutes, but 6-for-15 from three and 9-for-11 from the line in the final 20 minutes.

Evan Boudreaux paced Dartmouth with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Wright and Gullien Smith tallied 16 and 15, respectively. The Big Green shot .439 (25-for-57) for the game, and .556 (15-for-27) in the second half.

Marist held a 32-30 advantage in rebounds. Both teams had just 11 turnovers.
Marist is now 2-4; Dartmouth is 0-3.
