Marist Women Come in Sixth in Close Finish

ANNAPOLIS, MD – There were 3.5 points that separated spots 4-6 at the 2017 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships as the Marist women’s swimming and diving team placed sixth with 345 points.

The Red Foxes finished one point shy of Columbia for fifth place and Virginia took fourth place with 348.5 points. Meet host Navy took the top spot with 632.5 points when all events concluded March 5.

Marist junior Shannon Gordon set a personal best in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:02.43 that was good enough for fourth place. Another Marist personal record came in the 200-yard butterfly when freshman Jessica Miller clocked in at 2:07.96 for sixth place.

Competing in her last collegiate meet, senior Meredith Wurtz placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (51.49 seconds) and junior Georgia Goldman was 16th in the same event.

Goldman and Wurtz were on both ends of the Red Foxes 400-yard freestyle relay squad that concluded the meet with a fifth place time of 3:31.69.

Junior Megan Berardelli will be the lone Marist women’s diver competing at the NCAA Championships on March 6 and 7 in Christianburg, Virginia. She was named the Women’s Diver of the Meet at the ECAC Championships after placing first on the 1- and 3-meter boards.
