Vassar Track Finishes Action at Invitational

TUSCON, AZ – The Vassar College men’s and women’s track teams finished competition at the Willie Williams Invitational Saturday, as the Brewers saw some strong performances in action from the University of Arizona.

On the women’s side, senior Lucy Balcezak starred in the 800 meters, as she posted a fourth-place finish with a time of 2:17.65. Junior Eliana Marcus-Tyler was right behind Balcezak in 16th place with a time of 2:26.72, while fellow junior Katie Voegtlin placed 19th with a 2:28.15 in the 800. Junior Savannah Wiman also ran in the 800 for the Brewers, as she ran a 2:32.74.

In the 4×400 relay, Vassar’s contingent of Saparja Nag, Marcus-Tyler, Balcezak and Wiman combined to run a 4:11.24. For the men’s track team, senior Gabe Fishman had a very strong run in the 800 meters, as he finished fifth out of a field of Division I runners with a 1:55.35. Junior Jared Freeman was right behind him with a 2:00.58 in 14th place, and Ilya Rozenblat chalked up a time of 2:15.98.

In the 100 meter dash, freshman Skylar Widman was the top Vassar finisher with a time of 11.54, while senior Kyle Estrada ran an 11.56 in the fifth heat. In the 4×400 meter relay, Estrada helped lead the squad to a sixth-place finish, running a 3:23.37.

Vassar will return home and compete at the Monmouth Season Opener Friday-Saturday, March 24-25 at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ.
