616 Receive Degrees During Vassar Ceremony

ARLINGTON – A total of 616 seniors graduated from Vassar College on Sunday in the 153rd commencement at the school in the Arlington area of the Town of Poughkeepsie.

Deborah Bial, founder and president of the Posse Foundation, delivered the commencement address to the class of 2017, the first that included a group of Posse veterans brought to Vassar through a program with the foundation.

The graduating class included 63 students elected to Phi Beta Kappa for overall academic achievement. The college’s Phi Beta Kappa Prize for 2017 was awarded to Saskia Lynn DeRook Comess.

A total of 616 seniors graduated from Vassar College on Sunday in the 153rd commencement at the school in the Arlington area of the Town of Poughkeepsie.

A total of 38 grads were elected to the Sigma Xi national honor society for the sciences.  Seven graduates were elected to the American Chemical Society.

General Honors were awarded to 129 graduates.

Three recipients received the Truman Scholarship; three received Fulbright Fellowships; and one grad received an Austrian Federal Ministry of Education FLTP.

Two graduates were recipients of the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship; three received National Science Foundation Noyce Teaching Fellowships; and one received a National Science Foundation Award from Johns Hopkins University.
