NEWBURGH – Between coordinating blood drives, attending classes, and carpooling to clinicals, it’s no wonder Mount Saint Mary College nursing students consider the School of Nursing a second family.
The legacy of a Mount nursing education can be passed through biological families as well.
Danielle Nunziato ’17, recipient of both the Mount’s School of Nursing Clinical Excellence Award and the School of Nursing Leadership Award, was already acquainted with the college’s nursing program prior to her matriculation as a student – her mother, Diana Nunziato, graduated from the Mount’s nursing program in 2013.
As her mother, Diana, benefitted from the program, Nunziato knew that she wanted to pursue nursing at the Mount as well.
“Watching my mom become a nurse and enter a field she was passionate about confirmed my own feelings to become a nurse,” Nunziato said, “and I knew I also wanted to go to a program with a great reputation that would prepare me for my future.”
Diana’s success as a bariatric surgery nurse and her continued enthusiasm for the Mount after graduation factored into Nunziato’s decision as well.
“She told me that the intensity of the program really prepared her for the real world,” Nunziato explained.
Now an alumna herself, Nunziato is glad that her mother’s success led her to the Mount.
“Now that I have graduated and am getting ready to start work, I believe I have a solid foundation as I start my nursing career because of the education I received from the Mount,” she said.
It’s not just Mount nursing that runs in the family: Nunziato’s sister Janice also graduated from Mount Saint Mary College in 2017 with a degree in accounting and is currently pursuing her MBA through the School of Business.
