Deputy Sheriff’s PBA Reach New Agreement

GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus and Orange County Deputy Sheriff’s PBA President Mark Lopez announced last week that a contract agreement has been reached between the County of Orange and the Orange County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Benevolent Association (PBA).

“I am very pleased that we have worked out a settlement which fairly represents the views of both the County and the PBA,” Neuhaus said. “This is a fair and equitable contract for County Government and for the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office who do terrific work every day to make our County a safer place.”

The current PBA contract will expire at the end of 2017. The terms of the newly reached contract include a five (5) year agreement beginning in 2018. The wage portion of the settlement is as follows: 1.95% in 2018; 2% in 2019; 2% in 2020; 2% in 2021; and 2% in 2022. All members of this bargaining unit will pay 16% of the healthcare premium for the duration of this contract not to exceed $1,000 more than the previous year.

Other significant newly negotiated contract terms include: a designation of Senior Investigator, prior military and police service up to three years now creditable towards Orange County health insurance retirement benefits and an educational fund of $10,000 has been established.

“As President of the Deputy Sheriff’s PBA I am pleased that we have worked out an agreement that well represents the interests of our membership,” said PBA President Mark Lopez. “I thank County Executive Neuhaus and his negotiations team for their no-nonsense approach towards working through union and labor issues.”

The PBA  membership voted by an overwhelming majority last week to ratify the terms of the contract. The settlement will be presented to the County Legislature for a ratification vote. Eighty-seven employees in the PBA hold the rank of deputy sheriff and sergeant.
