Mount Evens Record With Sweep of Berkeley

FLUSHING – Senior Dorothy Tighe and sophomore Michelle Carnovale each won their team leading fourth singles matches of the season on Sunday evening as the Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Tennis team scored its third straight win with a 9-0 road triumph at Berkeley.

Tighe moved to 4-2 overall on the season, including a perfect 3-0 at the fourth singles position, with a 6-0, 6-0 victory for the Knights on Sunday. She is one of four Mount Saint Mary players on a personal three match winning streak.

Carnovale joined Tighe at 4-2 on the season, winning her third straight decision at the top flight with a hard fourth 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 victory over Berkeley’s Fanny Harling on Sunday.

Charlotte Pascual moved to 3-3 and won her third straight decision on Sunday with a 6-2, 6-1 win at second singles, with freshman Victoria Clay claiming her second straight win at third singles with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking in Sunday’s win.

Miyanna Vernon claimed her third straight victory on Sunday, taking her fifth singles match by a 6-0, 6-1 score, while Emily Quinn picked up a default victory at the sixth position for the Knights.

In doubles play, the top two pairs evened their record at 3-3 with Carnovale and Clay claiming an 8-2 win at the top flight and Pascual and Tighe scoring an 8-0 win at the second position. Antonietta Capone and Julia Lorenzo won their first match as a team with a third doubles victory by default.

At 3-3 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary returns to conference play on Wednesday when it travels to Sarah Lawrence. Match time with the Gryphons is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
