Epps, Stoll Grab Weekly Patriot League Honors

WEST POINT –  Sophomores Rex Epps and Justin Stoll of the Army West Point men’s soccer team received Patriot League weekly honors, as announced by the conference on Monday.
For the second time this season, Epps was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, while Stoll earned his first weekly recognition as the goalkeeper of the week.

The Black Knights played to a 2-0 record this past week, picking up wins over Sacred Heart and Colgate. In the two games combined, Epps tallied two goals and two of assists.

Against the Pioneers last Tuesday, the Irmo, S.C., native received the ball off a corner from Marcos Arroyo and headed it over to Roman Guiseppi, setting up the rookie for his first collegiate score. Later in the game, Epps delivered the game-winning goal, his second of the season, to help Army capture a 2-1 victory.

Epps followed that performance with a stellar outing against the Raiders on Friday night. In the 11th minute, he had control of the ball and dumped it over to Alex Grave de Peralta for the score. Holding a one-goal advantage, Epps extended the Black Knights’ lead after burying a shot in the 53rd minute.

Through 10 games, Epps is tied for the Patriot League lead in goals (6), points (16) and game-winning goals (2), while ranking first in shots (40).

Stoll played a pivotal role in the Black Knights’ success this past week. In the win against Sacred Heart, one of his three saves came late in the opening stanza to keep the score even at one, allowing Army to later win the game in the second half.

Later in the week, the sophomore picked up his league-best fifth shutout victory of the season after blanking the Raiders, 2-0. He made three stops in the game, including one late in the second half to preserve the shutout.

Stoll has been a key cog in between the pipes for Army this season. Logging the second-most minutes by a goalkeeper in the Patriot League, he has compiled the best goals-against average (.585) while ranking second in save percentage (.806).

The Black Knights are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Easton, Pa., for a 7 p.m. Patriot League contest against Lafayette.
