RIVERDALE – Junior forward Joey Dolan scored two more goals on Saturday as the Mount Saint Mary College Men’s Soccer team evened its overall record with a 2-1 road win at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
Dolan got the Mount on the board early in the contest with his team leading ninth goal of the season. He finished off a rebound from an initial shot from Bobby Caronia at the 19:25 mark of the contest for the only goal of the opening 45 minutes.
The Knights finished the opening stanza with five of the seven shots taken and with a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Dolan doubled the Mount’s lead with his second goal of the game in the 57th minute. He buried a free-kick into the top left corner at 56:14 to push the Knights in front 2-0.
The Dolphins battled back and sliced the Knights’ lead in half with just under 17 minutes left in regulation time. Ardijan Berisha finished off his third goal of the season in the 74th minute and the Mount withstood another Dolphins’ shot and a pair of Mount Saint Vincent corner kicks in the final 14 minutes to secure the win.
Dolan pushed his team lead in goals to 10 with his second straight multi-goal outing. He has potted 25 goals in his career through Saturday and stands just a trio of markers shy of matching the program record of 28 tallies. Carnonia picked up his first assist of the season on the team’s first goal, becoming the 11th player with a point for the Knights in 2017.
Jakup Myrtja made the start in goal and played the first 40:24, before fellow freshman Tyler Rapp came on to make one save in the final 49:36 to pick up the win. Padelis Astrinidis stopped three shots in the loss for the Dolphins.
Overall, Mount Saint Mary finished with a 13-5 advantage in overall shots and a slim 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Mount Saint Mary also posted a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks in Saturday’s win.
