Vassar Picks Up 3-0 Win At Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Vassar College women’s soccer team posted their sixth shutout win of the season, while picking up a 3-0 Liberty League road win at Skidmore on Saturday afternoon.

The team is now 3-0-1 in conference action and are unbeaten in their last nine outings overall.

Fiona Walsh played a solid game in net as the defense played strong in front of her. She faced just eight shots and made two saves on the day.

Ashley Ferry got back in on the scoring action with a goal in the 26th minute. Sarah Debenedictis played in a corner kick that bounced off a Skidmore defender and went right to the feet of Ferry who was able to make score.

The Brewers would hold that one goal advantage through most of the game, until they found the back of the net twice in the nine minutes of the contest.

Rachel Chernet recorded her second goal of the season in the 82nd minute against the Thoroughbreds. She took a long shot that deflected off a Skidmore defender and beat the keeper high for the Brewers second of the day.

Just seven minutes later, and with under two minutes remaining in the game, VC would log their final score of the afternoon. Brenna McMannon lined up for a free kick about 30 yards from the cage and fired it in to the head of Sara Seper who was able to get the shot on target and into the goal.

Chernet led the team with three shots, while Savannah Cutler, Seper, and Ferry had two apiece.

League action continues next weekend as the team is on the road at Clarkson and St. Lawrence beginning in Potsdam on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
