Army Blanks Bucknell for Sixth Straight Win

WEST POINT – Led by Amber Clay and Haven Bethune’s double-double performances, the Army West Point volleyball team blanked Bucknell Saturday night to win the Black Knights’ sixth straight match.

Clay had an outstanding showing for the Black Knights with a match-high 13 kills, 15 digs and a .440 hitting percentage.

Bethune totaled 44 assists in the match and 11 digs. She also produced one of Army’s four service aces.

Vanessa Wesley contributed 11 kills and five block assists, while Allie Strong added eight and Rachel Gearon had seven.

Ellie Petersen notched 17 digs in the match.

Army led in blocks (6-5), kills (50-36), digs (61-45), assists (48-33) and service aces (4-2).

How It Happened

Set One (25-23 Army)
The set was a tight one as there were 12 tie scores and six lead changes.

Clay stood out for Army with eight kills in the set for a .800 hitting percentage.

Bethune had 13 assists in the set and eight digs to lead in both categories.

Set Two (25-17 Army)

The Black Knights jumped ahead 11-5 in the second set and maintained their lead for the entirety of the set.

Clay and Wesley each posted four kills in the frame and Bethune added another 14 assists.

Wesley closed-out the set after connecting with Bethune for a kill.

Bucknell stuck with Army in the final set and took the early lead, but the Black Knights charged back.

The set was tied 8-8, but the Cadets went on a 17-8 run to claim the match.

Wesley had a big set with seven kills and Strong added five.

Army hit .372 in the final set to overcome the Bison.

The Black Knights are on the road at American and Loyola this weekend. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
