Blue Knights Women Soccer Sails Past Maritime, 8-0

THROGGS NECK – Senior Destiny Ribadeneyra was one of six different goals scores and finished with a hat trick and eight points as the Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Soccer team got back into the win column with an impressive 8-0 road win at Maritime.

The Knights broke the game open early on Saturday with four goals inside the first 15 minutes of play. Bridget McKeever scored the eventual game winner, her 16th of the season, just 97 seconds in the contest for an early 1-0 lead.

Ribadeneyra followed with her first of three goals in the fifth minute before Nicole Cavallo extended the lead to 3-0 at the 11:09 mark of the contest. Ribadeneyra scored her second of the game in the 14th minute and closed out her fourth hat trick of the season at 23:05 with her team leading 19th goal of the season. Allison Jones rounded out the scoring in the first half with her 10th of the season at 43:59.

Mount Saint Mary dominated the first half, holding a 6-0 lead and heading to the intermission with a 26-0 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Knights maintained the pressure coming out of halftime, posting 18 more shots and scoring two more goals. Claire Newman scored her second goal of the season early in the second frame before Haley Murphy closed out the scoring with her sixth of the season in the 75th minute.

Ribadeneyra finished the day with eight points, moving her team lead in goals to 19 and in points to 51. Murphy and Newman each finished the day with a goal and an assist with Jones becoming the third player to reach at least 10 goals this season. McKeever finished the day with her 16th tally and second game winning goal of the season.

Mary Riley picked up her sixth shutout of the season without having to make a save on the day. Her goals against average dipped under 1.00 to 0.98 and her save percentage stands at .808. A pair of Maritime keepers combined for 12 saves, led by seven from Cammie Havens.

Overall, Mount Saint Mary finished with a 44-0 advantage in shots and a 20-0 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks went in favor of the Mount 6-0.

At 14-3-1 and 8-0-0 in Skyline Conference play, the Mount closes out the regular season on Wednesday with a home clash with preseason favorite Farmingdale State. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
