Men’s Swimming Tops Bard Wednesday, 109-61

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar College men’s swimming and diving team was back in the pool for its second meet in five days Wednesday evening, earning a 109-61 home victory over Bard College in action from Kresge Pool.
 
Sophomore Jordan Kalina had a strong meet for the Brewers, as he posted a pair of wins in two distance freestyle events. Kalina earned the win in the 1000 free with a time of 10:39.31, and followed that up later with a 5:12.51 in the 500 freestyle.
 
Freshman Max White earned nine points for the Brewers in the 200 freestyle event, clearing the field with a time of 1:48.72. Fellow newcomer Davon Dowie finished third in the event, swimming a 2:24.51 for Vassar.
 
In the 50 free, Matthew Imiolek earned his second victory in as many meets, as he posted a time of 22.81 to out-touch Bard’s Tyler Mar at the wall. Sophomore Harrison Taylor earned third in the 50 free with a 24.18, while newcomer Parker Bartz had a strong time with a 24.63.
 
Senior Jonah Strand was just nipped in the 200 IM by Bard’s Dio Tzortzis, as Strand posted a time of 2:02.10 for second-place in the most competitive race of the night. White added another win during the 100 fly, as he and Taylor went 1-2 with times of 56.11 and 56.44, respectively.
 
The Brewers saw a personal-best in the 100 free, as Imiolek continued to swim well in chalking up a 51.53 for second place. Freshman Rowan McDowell picked up four points for the Brewers in the 100 backstroke with a second-place finish, booking a 1:02.32, and Finn Belanger swam a 1:05.66 for third.
 
Strand was back in the pool for the 100 breaststroke, and swam the event’s fastest time with a 1:00.47, one of the top swims of the day for the Brewers. On the boards, senior Connor Martin earned the win in the 1-meter diving event, posting 180.45 points over his six-dive list. Junior Marvin Corleto was second, posting 136.13 points on the night.

The Brewers will now travel to Skidmore College Saturday, November 4 at 1 p.m. for their first road meet of the 2017-18 campaign.
