Newburgh’s Own Caitlin Caporale is the Voice

PEEKSKILL – Newburgh’s own Caitlin Caporale, Season 8 finalist on the Voice, performed at 12 Grapes Music and Wine Bar in Peekskill on Wednesday, October 18.

The soulful R&B singer had the crowd dancing as she belted out familiar tunes like “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys, “Treasure” by Bruno Mars, “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves, “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley, and “You Know I’m No Good” by Amy Winehouse.

“I love to ‘cover’ artists that are now so that people can hear my style on those songs… I’ve been doing ‘covers’ really since I was like fourteen years old. I started a YouTube channel and then I started writing after that, original music. So, I like to put both of them together,” said Caporale.

“I put out my debut EP entitled ‘Canvas…’ There’s six songs on that. The single is ‘Guarded Heart,’” said Caporale.

Caporale sang original music “Guarded Heart,” “Canvas,” “What If,” “Bringin’ it Back to Love,” and “All In” from her EP during her performance.

She was backed by Guitarist Steve Mercier who teaches at Marist College, Drummer Jon Bates from the Jon Bates Band, Bass Player Dan Asher from New York City, and Keyboard Player/Backup Vocalist Akie Bermiss who plays with Lake Street Dive.

“[We do] four shows a week, 52 weeks a year… We love live music. We’re fanatics,” said Rich Credidio, owner of 12 Grapes Music and Wine Bar, who is also a musician. “I care about the quality of the musician, how tight the band is, and how professional they are… [We book] national acts when they’re touring through… sometimes regional, and sometimes [acts] growing up in the town next door.”
