ITHACA – The Vassar women’s soccer team dropped their final game of the regular season at Ithaca, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon. The loss moved the Brewers’ Liberty League record to 5-3-1, good enough to clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

Ashley Ferry knocked in her eighth goal of the season in just the eighth minute of the game. Amanda McFarland crossed in a ball from the top right of the box where Ferry kicked it into the left corner for the score.

The Bombers controlled the game in the first half on the stat sheet. Ithaca outshot Vassar, 9-1 in the opening frame and drew five corner kicks while the Brewers had none.

In the second half, Ithaca fired off nine more shots, but connected on two of them which was the difference in the match. In the 79th minute, Kendall Cirella notched the first Ithaca goal off a penalty kick that tied the game at 1-1.

Then in the 87th minute, Shannon McMillan scored a rocket of a goal from 30 yards out. The senior back fired a shot into the top left corner in what would prove to be the game-winning-goal for her side.

Fiona Walsh finished the game with seven saves against 18 Ithaca shots.

Freshman Ally Thayer led the Brewers in offensive chances with three shots and two on goal. Ferry’s goal improved her point total to a team-high 22 this season, which is third best in the league. The senior, McFarland, now has 16 total points off her six goals and four assists.
