MSMC Wins Skyline Conference Championship

NEWBURGH – Junior Joey Dolan scored with just under seven minutes left in regulation time to secure the Mount Saint Mary College Men’s Soccer program’s second Skyline Conference Championship and berth into the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 win over St. Joseph’s-L.I. Dolan’s 18th marker of the year is a new single season program record for the Knights.

Dolan goal broke a scoreless tie at the 83:06 mark of the second half to give the Mount the late one goal advantage. He wired a free-kick from 35 yards out under the bar for the only goal of the game. The goal broke Matt Garcia’s (2013) previous single season mark for goals of 17.

After falling behind by a goal, St. Joseph’s had three corner kicks in the final five-and-a-half minutes, but could not get a shot off. The Golden Eagles’ final attempt at the goal came in the 74th minute when a Rayneru Ruiz shot sailed high.

Dolan’s marker gives him the Skyline Conference lead by two tallies and he moved into a tie for first in the league in points with 38. He stands just four points shy of matching the single season points record set by Garcia in 2013.

Freshman Tyler Rapp finished the day with three saves to earn his 10th win of the season and his seventh shutout. He lowered his goals against average to a Skyline Conference leading 0.54 and pushed his save percentage up to .867. Rapp has not allowed a goal since the double overtime of a 2-1 loss to Old Westbury on October 7. Steven Deng played a strong game for the Golden Eagles with four saves.

Mount Saint Mary finished the day with a slim 10-9 edge in overall shots and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. Dolan led the Mount with four shots, while Matt Fuge and Fred Stark each recorded a pair of attempts. St. Joseph’s-L.I. controlled corner kicks in the contest 9-4.
