HIGHLAND – Highland Middle School held its second Career Day on Thursday, November 16. Students were introduced to different jobs and career opportunities. Earlier in the school year, students were asked what types of careers they were most curious about. Organizers then recruited professionals from each field. The fair boasted 36 different professions. Careers represented included firefighter, judge, carpenter, land surveyor, insurance, veterinarian, and many more.
In addition to learning about different careers, students also had to put newly learned life skills into action. Last week, students were reminded of the proper way of greeting someone for the first time. Assistant Principal Meghan Connors said, “Students learned the importance of having a strong handshake, how to make eye contact, and how to be confident when speaking with someone.” Connors adds, “Today’s students will have many jobs over the course of their lives, and their environment will always be changing, but having basic life skills will at least give them the chance to meet those challenges.”
