Supper is Being Served in Afterschool Programs

NEWBURGH – The Newburgh Enlarged City School district is now serving supper meals to all students participating in extended day after school enrichment programming. Students participating in shorter afterschool activities are provided a snack. Most afterschool programming currently occurs Tuesday – Thursday, with smaller programs running from Monday – Friday.

NFA Main campus and South Middle School began serving supper meals in October and Horizons on the Hudson, Balmville Elementary, Vails Gate STEAM Academy, and GAMS Tech started serving meals in mid-November.

Currently, the district is serving approximately 475 suppers during afterschool programming and plans to expand again in January. The supper program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture(USDA) under the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which provides the district federal reimbursement dollars for each meal served. Supper meals must include servings of whole grains, protein, fruit, vegetable and low fat milk. Sample menus attached are attached.

The district currently provides free breakfast and lunch to all students on school days throughout the school year. Over the summer, the district provides lunch at 18 different locations throughout the City of Newburgh and Towns of Newburgh and New Windsor, through the Community Eligibility Provision of the USDA. Breakfast is provided at some of those locations as well.

“We are excited for another opportunity to provide healthy meals to our students. Many families find it difficult to afford and prepare a variety of nutritious foods at home.
