Knights Edged by Boston U. in League Opener

BOSTON, MA – The Army West Point men’s basketball team dropped its Patriot League opener here Friday night to Boston University, 90-82.

Army could never really get a rhythm going and had a hard time stopping the Terriers’ top scorer in Cedric Hankerson. The senior exploded for a game-high 33 points and was one point shy of matching his career-best effort.

The Black Knights hung tough throughout much of the contest and had a double-digit first-half deficit down to 61-60 following an Alex King 3-point play with 7:06 remaining.

Unfortunately, Hankerson took over. He rattled off 10 straight, including back-to-back 3-pointers, to hand the home team a 71-60 advantage with just under five-and-a-half minutes to play.

Army was ultimately never able to recover.

Five reached twin figures for the Black Knights with Jordan Fox leading the way with a team-best 18 points. Tommy Funk chipped in 14 points, while King added 13. Matt Wilson and Luke Morrison closed out the Cadet top scorers with 11 points each.

Morrison matched his season-high in rebounds with seven in Friday’s contest to lead Army on the boards. Fox and Funk dished out eight assists apiece, while Fox compiled two steals.
